1: Measure Your Space
For the best experience and a quick & accurate quote we suggest measuring your space before coming in and working with one of our experts.
Below are a few tips for taking more accurate measurements.
Estimating Your Countertop Measurements
1. Draw (Kitchen layout)
a. Draw a rough picture of the layout of your kitchen. Be sure to include ALL areas (existing or added to your kitchen layout) in your drawing. Also include any island, peninsula, coffee bar, butler pantry, overhangs, etc.

2. Measure
Basics:
a. Standard countertop depth (wall to front of cabinetry): 24-26 inches
b. Countertop Thickness: 3 centimeters
What to measure:
Existing countertops, or base cabinets, and mark all lengths and widths on your drawing. If the backsplash is to match the countertop material, measure the backsplash also.
Steps to Measure:
a. Starting from one end of the countertop, use the tape measure to measure the length along the edge. If there are any protruding objects, such as a backsplash or appliances, measure up to the point where the countertop would meet these elements. Write down the length measurement on your drawing, indicating the starting and ending points of the countertop.
b. Next, measure the width or depth of the countertop. Place the tape measure at the edge of the countertop and extend it to the opposite edge, ensuring the tape is parallel to the edge. Note the width measurement, including any additional notes if there are irregularities or variations in width along the countertop.
c. If your countertop has a backsplash, measure its height from the countertop surface to the top edge. Start from one end and measure to the other, noting any variations or irregularities in height.
d. If you have cutouts for sinks, cooktops, or other fixtures, measure their dimensions accurately. Measure the length, width, and depth of the cutout, ensuring precise measurements for a proper fit. Note the cutout on your drawing. Be sure to include markings for the location of the sink(s), dishwasher, stove/oven, refrigerator, and any other appliances in your kitchen.
e. Depending on the complexity of your countertop, you may need additional measurements. For example, if you have an L-shaped countertop, measure the length and width of the second section separately, following the same steps outlined above. Also, any overhangs or added overhangs should be measured and noted on the drawing as some overhangs require additional support before countertop installation.
f. Check for accuracy: Once you have recorded all the measurements, double-check their accuracy. It's essential to ensure precision before coming in for a quote to ensure the most accurate pricing.
3: Order
a. Bring all of your measurement info and drawing to your local Carpet & Tile Mart for a professional to complete your countertop purchase!
b. Once in the store, you will be able to make the final selection of material, edges, finishes, etc.
Measuring Your Vanity Top
1. Basics
a. Vanity tops are cash and carry only, and are not eligible for installation. Vanity tops can be picked up at the countertop fabricator, or delivered to the job site or your local Carpet & Tile Mart store.
b. Vanity tops have a standard depth of 20-21”, but can vary. Measurements should be of the vanity base that the top will be installed on. Also note the size, shape, and location of the sink that will go with the top (if not purchasing the sink through Carpet & Tile Mart)
c. Countertop Thickness: 3 centimeters
2. What To Measure
Existing vanity tops, base cabinets, or measurements of new/future vanity cabinet bases. Mark all lengths and widths on your drawing. If the backsplash matches the countertop material, measure backsplash length for desired backsplash areas (Backsplash options: Center/behind vanity, left side, right side, or all three sides).
3: Steps To Measure
a. Starting from one end of the vanity, use a tape measure to measure the length along the edge. If there are any backsplashes (4” for vanity tops), note those on your drawing.
b. Measure to desired position of center of the sink or sinks and mark on your drawing.
c. Measure for the faucet, and note how many cutouts should be made based on your chosen faucet.
